Freshmen initiation is more then what most people think of it. It has been an EHS tradition for many years, and will remain a tradition for many more years to come. It can be defined in a couple different ways. If you were to look up initiation in the dictionary the definition you would get would be, to admit or accept with formal rights into an organization or group, secret knowledge, adult society etc. The school’s definition of initiation is the seniors accepting the freshmen into the school in embarrassing and torturous ways.
After interviews with many different freshmen I found that most of them have the same view as far as initiation. A lot of them claim that they aren’t nervous. Is this true or are they trying to put on a show. Lets take a look at what some of the freshmen had to say:
“I don’t know any upper classmen so I don’t care about initiation.” –Austin Nolan
“Initiation is awesome. I’m not nervous at all.” –Sean Hysell
“It’s not a big deal. I just want to know what their going to do” –Ethan Dumbar
“I like the idea and I’m not nervous. If it happens it happens.” –Alex Nizbit
“It’s ok as long as it’s not me” –Tiffany Barker
A little advice to the freshmen: Initiation is a tradition at EHS so nervous or not just accept it and get through it. After all it is only one week of school out of the 4 years that you are here. Also you will have your chance to do the initiations once you become a senior. So good luck to all freshmen September 29 – October 3.
